Weapons

A collection (well, of two for now) of new weapons. This page is open content.

Bayoneted Crossbow
Version: 1.0 (11-Jul-2001)
Author: Michael S. Thibault

Medium Exotic Weapon
Cost Damage Critical Weight Type
200gp 1d4 X2 8 lb. (P)

This light crossbow has a small piercing blade permanently affixed to the end. The crossbow functions as a Light Crossbow and uses all statistics associated with the light crossbow. Heavy, Hand or Repeating Crossbows cannot effectively be constructed with bayonets. If the user has not spent a feat to become proficient in the use of this weapon, she can still load and fire the weapon as a simple ranged weapon, but wields the bayonet in melee as a non-proficient user.

If the Bayoneted Crossbow is already loaded, the wielder can shoot the bolt and follow up with a melee attack with the bayonet. The penalties for fighting with two weapons apply, except that the Ambidexterity feat does not reduce the penalties for the attacks. The Two-Weapon Fighting Feat applies normally. As do penalties for non-proficiency, if applicable.

Weighted Chain
Version: 1.0 (22-Aug-2001)
Author: Chris McLeod

Large Exotic Weapon
Cost Damage Critical Weight Type
20gp 1d8 X2 20 lb. (B)

Like its spiked cousin, the weighted chain has a ten foot reach as well as the ability to be used on adjacent opponents. It can be used to trip and can be dropped to avoid being tripped if the attempt fails. It provides a +2 to the opposed attack roll on disarm attempts including the check to avoid being disarmed if the disarm attempt fails. The weighted chain can be used with the Finesse feat.

This is the preferred weapon of people who have reservations about killing sentient beings. In combination with the appropriate feats the weilder can disarm most opponents before they are in range to strike and can also trip them to the ground where a subdual attack is more likely to be effective. This gives the opponents ample opportunity to surrender. In this respect its main advantage over the spiked chain is that it can be used in conjunction with Improved Subdue. (q.v.) It is slightly less expensive than the spiked chain but a little heavier. Average damage is slightly lower to pre-empt any arguements from my DM.
