Broken Fang
Minor Artifact
Version: 1.0 (05-May-2001)
Author: Michael S. Thibault

Broken Fang is the shard remnant of the longsword Black Fang, which was wielded by the elf Coreth Striber during the Dwarven Wars. Coreth slew many a mountain dweller during the wars but never harbored a hatred for his foes and after the peace was established was one of the first to offer reparation to the families of the slain. Being unsuited to a life of politics or leisure he wandered the countryside looking for adventure. On his travels he met the fire giant Shlom who was preparing to raze the village of Trim-Fisae on the edge of the Scarlac Mountains. Coreth faced him and was gaining the upper hand until the giant sundered Black Fang with an enchanted tree-trunk. He grabbed the giant with his powerful hands and the two throttled each other to death.

For many years the villagers kept the two halves of the sword entombed with Coreth's body until a Krough, a Dwarven knight who called himself a Child of the Ebony Mountain, destroyed the tomb and stole the pieces of the sword. The dwarf used the stump of the sword in his campaign of terror against the local elves until he was defeated by a troop of the King's archers. It is said that Krough's manservants plucked the shards from their master's corpse and fled to the mountains but all that is known for sure is that the hilt has never been found. The hilt of the sword is plated in the finest gold with a few discrete jewels in the pommel and cross. The shard of blade is about 1.5 feet long and functions effectively as an unfinessible short sword that does slashing rather than piercing damage. Broken Fang is enchanted as a +3 Defending weapon that increases the users strength by 4 points for 1 hour per day on command (as the spell Bull's Strength).

The tip of the sword radiates magic, but has no properties on its own. If it were to be found and successfully reattached to the stump, Black Fang would become a +5 Defending Longsword of Speed, with the strength enhancing ability of the shard. Many believe that the tip and the hilt have been long separated and will never be reunited.

Thumping
Version: 1.0 (11-Jun-2001)
Author: Todd Ruthman

Similar to the benefit offered by flaming weapons, a weapon of thumping provides +1d6 subdual damage to each attack by the the weapon. Restricted to bludgeoning weapons.
Caster Level: 10th; Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor; Invisible Fist; Market Price: +1 bonus.

Some notes from my DM, Micheal S. Thibault:

"It is a little bit of a steal at +1, but close enough to let it slide, I think. The Flaming and Frost are all pretty much negated by an Endure Elements spell (Clr 1, Drd 1, Pal 1, Sor/Wiz 1, Strength 1, Sun 1) and most high level creatures are immune to Frost and/or Fire. Then again, undead and constructs are not subject to subdual damage, so it is probably fine."
